In 1898, there was an ordinary girl named Marry. She lived with her mother in a big city in England which almost everything was available, including a school where Marry learnt many things.
One morning, Marry’s teacher read a story about a magic ring. The ring was owned by a witch from West who was called Matilda, the magic finger. Matilda could do some evil magic only using her finger. Since her finger used that magic ring, she did not need a magic wand to curse her enemies. Then, she became a greatest wizard around the world. However, when fighting with a young wizard from the East, Matilda lost her balance which caused her fell into the ground. The young wizard pointed her magic wand to Matilda’s finger where the ring circling. She took the ring that fell beside the moaning Matilda. Then, she brought it far away from the fighting field. Now, the ring was kept in the National Museum in the center of the city. Actually, Marry was not really interested in the story because she had already seen the ring in the museum, and it was the worst ring she had ever seen.
In the afternoon, Marry went home and found a note hanging on her room’s door. There, her mother wrote that she had to go to village to visit her sick brother. She apologized to her daughter because she was in a hurry and could not ask her to join. Marry was sad in the beginning, but she realize that many things she could do during her solitude in her house.
First, she went to the warehouse in the backyard. Her mother often forbade her to enter the warehouse. Mrs. Elena said that those old things could be dangerous for her daughter. However, Marry thought that it would be fine if she did everything carefully. Then, she started to unlocked the old door and found the neat stack of many old goods there. She came closer and looked around. Everything seemed graceless. Suddenly, something fell into the floor when Marry was about to leave the warehouse. She picked that small box from the floor and brought it to her room.
The box contained a ring which covered by a velvet cloth. Surprisingly, the ring was just the same with Matilda’s ring which was kept in the museum. Marry was confused and curious about it. Then, she put the ring on her finger and it fit. Unfortunately, she could not pull it from her finger, no matter what how hard she tried.
The next day, Mrs. Elena came back from the village with bunch of fruits and vegetables on her hands. Marry was happy of her mother’s arrival. However, her strange posture which hiding her left hand in her back made her mother curious. Finally, Marry told her everything about the ring. Mrs. Elena was shocked knowing the fact that her daughter found the secret that she had kept for years.
“This magic ring is yours, dear,” said Mrs. Elena. “It had been belonged to mine.”
“But, the only magic ring was kept in the museum, Mom,” Marry clarified.
“No, that magic ring in the museum is the fake. The real one is here, on your finger,” Mrs. Elena said.
Marry still did not understand of her mother statement. Until she was told by her mother that the magic ring was belonged to her great-grandmother. And yes, she is the young wizard who got the magic ring from Matilda. It meant that Marry and her mother were wizards. The ring was given for generations and would work only if it used on the wizard’s finger.
“I think it is not a good idea to keep this secret longer,” Mrs. Elena said, “Now, you have to know that we are wizards, Marry.”
Since that full of surprises morning, Mrs. Elena taught her daughter how to apply her magic power using the magic ring. Marry always found some magic things in her days. Finally, she accepted her destiny as a wizard with a magic ring on her finger.
